Ads in RSS
While still a mystery to many, RSS is quickly being embraced by the online community as an effective means of syndicating content. The logical next step is monetizing feeds by the inclusion of advertising.
This may elicit a collective groan from the same people who chafe at the notion of blogs being used for commercial purposes. Nevertheless, as long as we live in a free market economy, marketers and advertisers will find ways to get the message out.
Feedburner is now introducing Amazon Associates links into feeds. Yahoo has announced that they are planning on offering an advertising service that will allow for sponsored links to be placed within syndication feeds. Wired News reports that more companies have started bringing advertising to RSS feeds.
Face it. As long as homo sapiens can figure out a way to make a buck, they will do it, whether we like it or not. At this point there has not been a backlash against it. Just wait. It will come. RSS ads have just not reached the proverbial tipping point yet.
There is a reason more and more people are switching to XM Radio, or buying iPods for example. Something within us yearns to get our information in a pure, unadulterated fashion without all the hype of ads. We won't win the battle most likely. The best we can hope for is to stay one step ahead of the advertisers.
Now, tell me again? How do I add my Amazon Associate link to Feedburner?
